About German Shepherds

German Shepherds are very versatile dogs. They are well-known for their work in law enforcement, military, search and rescue, service dogs, and as the names suggests herding. German Shepherds are loyal companions, despite their imposing appearance, well-socialized German Shepherds are typically approachable and gentle with children, making a popular choice for families. 

Breed Information 

Males are typically 24-26" in height and weigh 65-90 pounds. Females are typically 22-24" and weigh 50-70 pounds, both with a life expectancy of 12-14 years. 

Appearance 

German Shepherds have a strong, well-muscled body and noble head. They have erect ears and alert expressions that add to their regal and commanding presence. 

Coat

The German Shepherds have double coats that can be dense, straight, or slightly wavy outer coat and a soft undercoat. Having a double coat helps the German Shepherd to insulate and keep cool in the summer and warm in the winter. They do require grooming and brushing a few times a week which will help to manage shedding and keep their coats healthy. 

Training 

The German Shepherd is highly trainable. Early exposure to diverse situations and individuals during puppy stages can help to cultivate adaptability. 

Energy Level 

Energetic and active. They enjoy running, playing fetch, and engaging in interactive games and activities. German Shepherds can run up to 30 miles per hour.
